About Us
Beverly's Hearty Slice (BHS) was established on September 11th, 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Owensboro native, Travis Owsley, created Beverly's Hearty Slice. Travis was inspired by his mother's legacy of being a focal point in the community for encouraging, motivating, and guiding youth and adults alike. Beverly Owsley passed away on January 16, 2018. Travis, while processing the loss of his mother, chose to honor her legacy and memory with the founding of Beverly's Hearty Slice as he knew her work must continue. During this same time, Travis became increasingly disturbed by the seemingly increasing incidences in Owensboro of gun violence and drug use by the community's youth. This, along with his commitment to honor his mother, motivated Travis with the concept of Beverly's Hearty Slice to help bring our community together through food and collaboration.
Motivated by a profound desire for change and instill hope, Travis conceived the idea of bringing the community together through food. The primary aim was to actively engage in serving troubled areas, offering support, and creating hope amid these concerning challenges. Beverly's Hearty Slice was born out of this vision, seeking to make a positive impact within the community of Owensboro.
Our services include bi-weekly events providing food, gift cards for attendees in need to restock on essentials, non-perishables, and hygiene products. Past events have included providing our community members in need with $15 Walmart gift cards, $10 Zaxby's gift cards, $50 OMU vouchers to help with bills in challenging times and more. Beverly's Hearty Slice also supports our community in providing additional outlets for holiday joy including our Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas events.
